Klebsiella quasivariicola is a Gram-negative, encapsulated, non-motile rod in the family Enterobacteriaceae, closely related to Klebsiella variicola within the K. pneumoniae species complex. It has been isolated from both clinical and environmental sources but is often misclassified as K. pneumoniae or K. variicola by phenotypic methods. Whole-genome sequencing reliably distinguishes K. quasivariicola as a separate species, and isolates may carry capsular diversity loci and acquired antimicrobial resistance genes.
