It occupies a dual ecological niche as both a plant-associated bacterium with antifungal properties and an opportunistic pathogen in immunocompromised individuals, particularly those with cystic fibrosis. The genome of B. seminalis is organised across multiple replicons and encodes secondary metabolite clusters, including those for antifungal compounds, alongside typical Bcc virulence factors.
